An open letter to the folks on the public test realm.

Dear players on the World of Warcraft Public Test Realm Broxigar,

I think there has been a bit of a miss-communication.  Either you forgot (despite having to click on ‘public test’ every time you log in), or no-one told you (maybe they installed the PTR on your computer without telling you?) but you seem to have missed the fact that this is the public realm.  For testing.

I’m going to repeat that, for emphasis.

Public.

Realm.

For testing.

You know what that means?  That means that in order to allow the maximum number of players to test the new content, Blizzard has allowed everyone access to full epic gear, items, enchants, etc.  That means that there are going to be lots of people wandering around with epic gear that on live realms they might not otherwise have.  Don’t worry, this doesn’t make your pixels any less important because they have better pixels than you.  Them having new shinier pixels won’t make your fancy pixels disappear or get less fancy.  And don’t worry.  They won’t be able to keep their shiny new pixels if you stop complaining.  Why? Because it’s the PTR.  When Blizzard is done testing, everything on the PTR goes away.  Like magic.  *poof*  Gone.

You know what else will be gone when they close the PTR?  Your shiney new Raven Lord (which, by the way, we all go with our premades), that super rare pet that for some ungodly reason you spent time farming for on the PTR, and all that gold you now have.  It’s all going away.  So, no one cares if you have super duper amounts of gold and all these fancy things.  Because in a few weeks, they are all going away.

Also, this realm is for testing.  I know, that comes as a shock, it’s not even in the name or anything.  But, it totally is.  So, now and again, things aren’t going to work.  Some times it will be new things.  Some times it will be things already in live.  If you encounter a bug, it probably isn’t your fault.  That doesn’t make you a bad person.  However, the rest of us, in trade do not care.  Not even a little.  Open a ticket, and tell a GM.  But do them the favor of checking the forums fist.  I know you think you’re the only one on the PTR, but other people, just like you play there.  Some of them encounter the very same bugs you do.  So, check first.

Oh yeah, PTR=Public Test Realm.  It’s an open, public realm that everyone gets to use.  I know you are super leet.  I got that from your name, “Suprleetmage”.  However, Blizzard sometimes likes to get the opinions of the not-so super leet.  I know crazy right?  After all, the super leet mages, like yourself, are the best ones to test the new content right?  Wrong.  Well, sort of wrong.  Yeah, it’s important for the super leet to get in there to try the encounters and give intelligent feedback.  However, there are a lot of other people out there who play this game.  And their feedback is important too.

And finally, when a Blizzard employee starts talking in trade, it’s ok to comment back, but try and formulate something more intelligent that “OMG A GM!” Seeing this fly by 30 times in 3 seconds is super annoying.

One more time, in case you missed it.

Public.

Test.

Realm.

That is all.
